Job Description

The Investment Counselor Team Lead manages a team of Investment Counselors and Investment Associates. The job requires a broad and comprehensive knowledge of financial markets, wealth management practices, and industry products/services.

Responsibilities:
  • This position is a producing-manager role that will involve covering select clients directly in a senior capacity, and managing the Metro NY team of investment counselors, associates and analysts.
  • The candidate chosen will be expected to lead double-digit percentage growth in investment revenue and AUMs with Ultra High Net Worth clients. She or he will be experienced in constructing and overseeing investment portfolios as well as in delivering advice and guidance on markets and actionable investment ideas.
  • Appropriate candidates will possess the credibility to cultivate trusting, productive relationships with key partners throughout CPB and the wider Citi. They will be entrepreneurial and capable of bringing in new clients/investment management mandates to the bank. They will have an exceptional understanding of, and ability to communicate, the full range of investment themes, products and services Citi Private Bank offers to clients, including, though not limited to, capital market solutions, and traditional and alternative investments.
  • Candidates for this position will be able to instill collaborative and team-oriented behavior, and to leverage a wide array of product and other specialists, as well as other divisions within Citigroup, to broaden investment relationships and add the most value to clients. The candidate will understand how to align products and other investment solutions with asset allocation targets, risk management and client goals.
  • As the CPB and Citi product platforms are unusually broad and deep, the candidate must have a strong ability to coach experienced ICs and colleagues in the best ways to apply products to serve clients. CPB employs a team-based client coverage model, and the candidate will demonstrate an ability to partner very closely and effectively with management colleagues in order to coach, support and motivate client-facing professionals. Demonstrating such partnership with the Head of the Metro NY region.
  • Demonstrate a firm understanding of Managed Investments, with a strong ability to explain and implement asset allocation and individual asset classes with respect to their specific characteristics and within the context of a client portfolio.
  • Implement advisory and discretionary investment mandates.
  • Articulate and advocate the house view of Citi and CPB, as well as the investments Citi recommends, while matching the appropriate investment opportunities with the client's profile.
  • Knowledge of and ability to communicate capital markets strategies (equity, fixed income, FX derivatives, rates, credit, structured products) with clients.
  • Knowledge of volatility and correlation driven strategies across asset classes - pricing of options, volatility, skew,etc.
  • Display broad base of execution skills, having successfully completed a range of complex capital markets transactions; able to place trades on behalf of the client.
  • Ability to distill Citi research into a coherent theme, trend or trade idea.
  • Ability to interpret markets from both a sentiment and valuation context.
  • Understand what drives valuation in different asset classes - FX, equities, credit, rates.
  • Knowledge of executing various balance sheet and financing strategies.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of product specialty, economic events and best practices within the industry.
  • Understand broader One Citi and Citi Private Bank product offerings including: trusts, custody, banking and credit.
  • For those clients covered directly by the candidate, function as the primary client contact and trusted investment advisor for clients, including direct selling , determining suitability, identifying product specific opportunities, portfolio advice and after sales execution.
  • Implement a strategic advisory approach to account planning, focusing on the investment relationship in partnership with the Banker.
  • Arrange and lead regular (quarterly) investment and business reviews with assigned clients.
  • Provide clients with direct access to trading desks where appropriate.
  • Actively look for cross sell opportunities in others areas of the bank, in particular lending, trust and institutional markets solutions, etc.
  • Partner with Bankers to prospect for new investment business.
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred
  • CFA, MBA degree or other advanced degree a plus
